Abstract

21,618. Donovan, J. Oct. 13. Aerial machines without aerostats; aeroplanes; framework; propelling ; steering; starting.-The aerial machine is provided with a circular aeroplane M, with pairs of lifting and driving screws G G', T T' and with a front horizontal rudder X and a rear vertical rudder V. The plane M is supported by rods O from a rectangular platform A on which is mounted the motor and steering- handles. Below the frame A are placed skids, and wheels Z are mounted to fall away from the machine when it rises. Buoyant bodies may be fixed to the underside of the platform to support the machine on water. The screws forming each pair are mounted on parallel shafts K connected by gear-wheels L, L<1> to drive in opposite directions. The rear plane V is operated by a cord passing around a bollard V<3>, and the front plane X is tilted by a pedal &c. against the action of a spring Y.
