Abstract

16. Kay, M. Jan. 1. Aerial machines without aerostats; aeroplanes; framework; propelling; steering and balancing.- A number of parallel planes a, arranged in any suitable manner, are fixed to a frame b which is braced by rods e and transverse rods c. The frame is mounted on a shaft i in bearings g fixed to the supports h. The shaft i may be rotated, to adjust the inclination of the planes, by a worm l which engages with a toothed sector on the shaft. The inclination of the planes may be adjusted by moving a weight in the car, or by moving the car relatively to the framework of the planes. The machine is propelled by a screw u situated between the planes, so that the current of air from the propeller tends to lift the machine, and by one or more auxiliary propellers v on the car. The propellers are driven from a motor p through any suitable construction of gears. The machine is provided with a rudder 5 and steering-wheel x, which are both operated by the handle 6.
