Ventilating.-Hats, more especially waterproof or oilskin hats such as sou' westers, are provided with a ventilating-opening in the crown closed on the inside with canvas, gauze, or other porous fabric, and a cover of the same material as the hat is laid over the opening and attached at different points to the hat. The spaces between the points of attachment provide ventilating-passages. The cover may be made in various shapes, for example, in the shape of a cross.
