Abstract
16,733. Tonnesen, O. Aug. 8. Surveying-instruments; plane-tables. -In stope-measuring surveying operations, angles are measured and plotted directly on the plane of the reef instead of, as usual, by horizontal and vertical angles subsequently reduced to that plane. Figs. 1 and 2 show in plan and section respectively an instrument adapted for the work. A rectangular reflecting-prism B is fixed to the underside of a fixed arm P, at the outer end of which is mounted a sighting-aperture. A second and similar prism A is fixed to an alidade F carried by a pivot F<1> adapted to rotate in a socket H<1>. The angle between any two directions is determined by simultaneously sighting marks in those directions in the two prisms and bringing them into optical coincidence by adjusting the arm F. Fig. 5 shows another instrument in which a simple arm with sights k, l works over a graduated disk, horizontally pivoted to a rotatable stem and carrying a semicircle adapted to be clamped in any position by a screw T. The tables or disks may be covered with paper upon which the angles are directly plotted.
