Abstract
16,533. Vereinigte Dampfturbinen- Ges. Oct. 1, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Cooling bearings; lubricating.-A shaft-bearing for turbines &c. is cooled by circulating lubricant through passages in the body of the bearing. The upper and lower brasses 2 are formed with external ribs 6, the spaces between which constitute a tortuous passage through which the lubricant passes before reaching the bearing-surfaces. As shown in Fig. 1, the lubricant enters at the passage 8, and after circulating through the lower brass passes to the upper one at the passage 12, eventually reaching an opening 13 leading to grooves 14, 15, 16 in the bearing-surface. The passages in the brasses may be helical. The lubricant escapes at the ends of the brasses into chambers 17, 18, 19 and drains away through a conduit 20. It may be filtered and cooled in order to be used again.
