Brakes and bushes.-A bearing for armature shafts &c. has a lining B of soft metal, reinforced by renewable strips C of harder metal such as bronze, let into dovetailed grooves D in the outer ring A. The underside of each strip is hollowed as at E, and the ring A is correspondingly channelled to receive the molten white metal B. The strips C may be of sufficient length to take the end thrust of the shaft.
