Abstract

11,536. Sutcliffe, R. May 17. Lubricating.-Relates to a method of lubricating shafts, axles, cranks, &c. from a stationary oil-cup. An end cover d is bolted tightly to a boss e on the frame f at the end of the bearing, and has a projection h turned to fit into a hole in the end of the shaft. A lubricator j attached to a projection d<1> on the cover d supplies lubricant to a passage i, which registers with a central bore b in the shaft a. From the bore b, holes c lead the lubricant to the shaft bearing, and holes o, p, q to the bearing of the crank-pin l. The outer ends of the holes o,p are stopped by screw plugs r. Packing g may be inserted between the cover d and boss e. A conical collar k enclosing packing-rings m, n is bolted to the inner side of the bearing to prevent waste of lubricant.
