Abstract
15,423. Palmer, I. E. July 21. Dyeing; washing.-A rope, chain, or strip of fabric &c. is dyed, washed, &c. by means of a skeleton roll immersed in the treating-liquid, the roll circulating the liquid through the materials as the latter passes over it. The roll is made with blades 6, 7 arranged longitudinally on its periphery, adjacent blades 6, 7 being relatively inclined in cross-section. One 6 of each pair of blades extends within the roll to a greater extent than the other 7. The pairs of blades 6, 7 are supported upon rims 4 mounted on flattened spokes 3 extending from the hubs 1, 2 of the roll, and angularly disposed like the blades of a screwpropeller for inducing a current of liquid through the end of the roll into its interior. In use the material to be treated is passed over a guide-roller, into the liquid in the tank, around the roll described immersed therein, and thence away through squeeze rolls and over other guide-rollers. Certain of the rollers, such as the squeez rolls, may be positively driven, the roll in the vat being rotated by the fabric passing round it.
