Abstract

15,113. Russel, J. July 16. Fans.-Fan blades are made of light material, such as paper surrounded by a strengthening- frame. The body part A of the blade is made up of a central sheet a of corrugated paper, two sheets a<1> of plain paper, and veneer facings a<11> of wood. The corrugations are preferably arranged to run diagonally, and the grain of the veneer longitudinally. The edges of the paper may be made firm by taking them over a wire E and saturating them with cement or glue. The part A is held in a channel-section frame B which may be of thin metal or celluloid. The outer end b<1> hinges back on a pivot b<11> to allow the part A to be removed. The other end b is secured to a holder C which is attached to the rotating shaft by means of a frangible pin c<2>. The pin c' is of the kind described in Specification No. 8777, A.D. 1908, and breaks when the blade A is subjected to abnormal strain or shock. Strengthening- strips D may be provided.
