Abstract

Typewriters. - Relates to typewriters in which the types are arranged in a carrier upon an horizontal axis and are thrust against the platen by a hammer. The type-bars 12 are arranged in two concentric circles of holes in two disks 10, 11 mounted upon a spindle 9, which is supported in slides vertically movable in guides 15, 16 to bring either circle of types opposite the printing-point. The slides are raised and lowered by means of a key 25, depression of which rocks a shaft 6 and arms 13, 14 thereon connected with the slides. The disks 10, 11 are rotated to position a type by the engagement of a crown-wheel 20 with a pinion 19 meshing with a segment 17 on a lever 4 which is adjustable over an index-segment 21. Depression of the lever 4 moves the segment 21 and lever 5 so as to rock a hammer 22 to drive the type against the platen 7. An inking-roller 26 in a hinged support 27 is lifted to ink the type as it moves towards the platen. A guide may be provided in front of the platen to support the type in the printing position.
