Blowers or drawplates; convertible close and open fire-places.-The front of an open fire-place may be closed by a vertically movable screen by means of which it may be converted into a closed slowcombustion stove. The screen l and a section f of the grate front are upheld by chains or the like fitted with counterweights z, r, respectively. When the screen l is pulled down, its counterweight z lifts the counterweight r, and causes the section f to drop into the position just above the fixed part of the grate front. The screen l is held in its lowest position by horizontal rods u, Figs. 4 and 5, on its front, which rods are movable on studs v by a crank disk s so that their ends may be engaged with flanges x on the sides of fire-place.
