Abstract

Delivery, regulating; cleaning while in use.- Means are provided for enabling the valves of one element of a multiple pump supplying a hydraulic pressure service to be inspected or repaired while the other elements continue working. For this purpose an additional valve d, Fig. 1, is fitted between the delivery valve g of each pump and the service pipe e, and hand-operated mechanism is fitted, as shown, for lifting the suction valvef off its seat by raising the rod s in the suction pipe q. A further lifting of the valve raises the delivery valve g from its seat, whereupon the whole of the liquid in the pump barrel and pipe h is free to run back into the suction tank c. The plug axially above the valves can then be removed to effect the repairs. Known automatic means may be employed in connexion with the apparatus for throwing one or more of the pumps out of action when the pressure in the service main reaches a certain limit.
