Locks, key; fastenings, hasp.-In a lock for portmanteaux, trunks, deed boxes, &c. of the type in which end hasps are locked by a central lock, the end hasps are fastened by a sliding bar or bars C, which are locked by the staples a<5> on the central hasp A' and also by the bolt D which secures the central hasp. The staples a<5> engage slots c in the bar C and the bolt D is provided with projections d' which pass on both sides of a tongue c<1> formed on the bar. The lock-mechanism is preferably of the type described in Specification No. 4146, A.D. 1894. A staple A<2> may be provided to pass through the central hasp and to receive a padlock. The staple preferably passes through the front plate a' of the casing and is riveted to the back plate, an aperture a<4> being provided in it through which passes the sliding bar C.
