Tyres, pneumatic.- To prevent slipping while preserving a smooth surface on the tyre, the tread comprises rings c of pliant rubber extending to the canvas backing d and separated by strips b of hard rubber, rubber enclosing a metal web, or other less elastic material, which are arranged to converge on the central line of the tyre. It is stated that, when'the tread is compressed by contact with the road, the strips b come closer together and force out the rings c to form ridges with grooves between them. In a modification, the rings c of rubber are enclosed in trough-shaped rings of the less elastic material.
