Abstract
6583. Vuille, P. Oct. 11, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Bedsteads; mattresses; sofas.-A sofa, convertible into a double bed, comprises a base supporting a pivoted seat and provided with removable back and arm rests 2. The space below the seat is occupied by a wire mattress 13, and by the ordinary mattress when the arrangement is used as a sofa. When opened for use as a bed, the seat is supported by pivoted legs 6. The mattress 13 is supported between pivoted frames 9, 18, and may be adjusted by means of a rope attached to the frame 18 and wound on a shaft 17 turned by a detachable handle 15. Ratchet-wheels 21 mounted on the shaft are engaged by spring-pressed pawls 22, which may be released by pressing handles 24. The frame 18 has grooves in its sides formed with notches 26, which are engaged by pivots 20 so that the position of the mattress may be adjusted. The frame 9 is stayed in position by means of links 11, 12 pivoted at 10, and the seat is prevented from turning about its hinges 4 by a movable hook 14, Fig. 5.
