Abstract

5427. Marks, E. C. R , [Ray, W. H.]. March 10. Corrugating. - A machine for cutting and driving metal fasteners or dowels from a plain strip, corrugates the metal at the same time. Figs. 7 and 9 are horizontal and vertical sections of a part of the machine. The strip is passed through a guide R to the corrugating and feeding rollers J, J<1>, Figs. 7 and 24, the larger roller being fixed to a ratchet-wheel j, which is operated by a pawl j<3> connected to a bevel-wheel j<1> in engagement with a bevel-rack K pivoted at k, Fig. 23. The rack K is operated by a cam F on the main shaft D and its throw is limited by a cam stop L, Fig. 23, which is turned by a handle 1 to vary the feed and the consequent length of the fasteners. The strip moves through a guide into a position between fingers H, H<1>, Fig. 15, and a length is severed by means of a fixed knife i<1> and a pivoted knife i operated by the cam F engaging a roller i<2>, Fig. 9. A spring M keeps the knife in engagement with the cam. In a modification, separate rollers are used for feeding and corrugating the strip.
