Abstract

1925. Williams, A. C. Jan. 28. Clinometers.-In levels of the Abney type in which the reference bubble is projected into the field of view, the telescope eyepiece is provided with one or more half-lenses of high magnifying power through which the object is sighted, and with a half spectacle lens for viewing the bubble. The eyepiece 11 is arranged to slide in the body. 1 of the instrument and is provided with half-lenses 11<a>, 11<b>, the object being sighted through prisms 4, 5 and the object-glass 10. The bubble of the spirit level 6 is observed by reflection from a mirror 13 through a half-lens 12 mounted in the eyepiece. The spirit level is mounted on a carrier 7 pivoted at 8, and is moved by means of a micrometer screw 9 gearing with a segment 7<a>. The angle through which the level has been moved to bring the bubble to its central position is read by means of a degree scale 15, minutes being read on the head 17 of the screw, or by a vernier.
