19,060. Baalsrud, S. Aug. 25. Theodolites and tachometers.-Relates to microscopic scale - reading devices for theodolites, tachometers, and similar angle-measuring instruments. As shown in plan (with the cover removed) in Fig. 1, and in vertical section through the line C-D in Fig. 1, the horizontal graduated circle 1 is illuminated by light reflected on to it after passing through an opening in the cover 4, beneath which are two microscopes 5 fixed to the pivot of the instrument. Two images of the opposite graduations are seen one above the other in the ocular 10, by means of two superposed reflecting-prisms 6, 7 and a reflecting-prism 8. For reading the vertical graduated circle, either one or two microscopes are carried by the telescope tube, with their axes intersecting that of the telescope, the rays of light passing through apertures in the telescope tube. The rays passing through the microscope nearest the eyepiece of the telescope are deflected by a prism into an ocular arranged parallel to the axis of the telescope.
