Abstract
56. Russell, W. H. Jan. 1. Roller bearings.-In a roller bearing for vehicle wheels of the kind described in Specification No. 25,488, A.D. 1905, end thrusts are taken by two series of frusto-conical rollers 15, Fig. 1, which are pivoted on balls 14, 17 occupying pockets in the ends of the rollers and in rings 11, 13, 16. The ring 13 is adjustable on a ring 10, between which and the ring 11, the main rollers 9 are similarly pivoted on balls 12. The rollers 15 bear against thrust-collars 21 screwed on to the bearing 20, and thrust-collars 22, 23 mounted on the axle. The larger ends of the rollers 15 are provided with bevelled surfaces, which engage annular projections 27 on the thrust-collars. Dust &c. is excluded by a brush 30, which is mounted in a dust-cap 29 and rubs on the collar 22. Fig. 3 shows the application of the thrust-bearing to a lifting-jack, the two members 32, 33 of which are centered by a ball 34. Screws 35 engaging an annular channel 36 prevent the two members from becoming separated.
