Slipping, preventing, attachments to wheels for; tyres, elastic other than pneumatic.-In a non-skidding wheel of the kind described in Specification No. 5772, A.D. 1907, in which a segmental elastic tyre C is secured to the wheel at the side of a metal tyre B, the sections of the elastic tyre may be moved outwards to project beyond the metal tyres, or inwards to be out of contact with the road. In the form shown, the sections of the elastic tyre are secured to rim sections D, which are formed with toothed extensions D<1> bearing against toothed brackets which are fixed to the wheel. The rim sections are secured by bolts G, and are provided with slots to permit radial movement when the bolts are loosened. In modifications, the tyre sections can be moved outwards or inwards by the rotation of a cam which bears against the inner ends of the extensions D<1>, or by toggle-levers. In another modification, the rim sections are hinged to the felloe at one end, while at the other end they may be secured in different positions so as to be in or out of contact with the road. In a further modification, the sections of the tyre may be raised or lowered on the rim sections by packing, or by screws on base-plates to which they are secured the screws passing through the rim sections. Adjustment for wear may be made in the same way.
