23,531. Astrom, J., and Newman, S. Oct. 24. Signals, marine and ship.-High-pressure fluid supplied to the annular chamber 5 escapes into the central low-pressure chamber 7 by raising the diaphragm 9. The consequent reduction in pressure allows the diaphragm to fall, the diaphragm being thus vibrated rapidly, thus producing sound or other vibrations, such as may be used for submarine signalling. The diaphragm is secured in place by the cap 10 engaging the screw-threaded flange 8 on the chamber 1. The arrangement may be reversed so that the pipe 6 becomes the highpressure supply-pipe and the pipe 4 the escape-pipe. Air, steam, water, &c. may be used as the pressure fluid.
