Abstract

19,407. Lovell, F. W. Aug. 29. Grabs.-The scoop members of a double chaingrab are suspended from the carrying-frame so that, when open, the scoops shall be wide apart and start nearly vertically into the material and then swing into an horizontal position as they approach each other. Mounted on shafts C in a frame B are levers D having upward extensions D<1>. The rear ends of the bucket segments A are suspended from the levers D, while the forward ends are connected by links E to the extensions D'. Integral with the shafts C are sheaves F, to which are secured the ends of the opening-ropes G. The main hoisting-cable N is passed around and fastened to a sheave K arranged intermediate of and between the sheaves F. Other ropes L are attached at one end to the sheaves k<2> integral with the sheave K in such a manner that, when the grab is suspended from the cable N, the closing operation is automatically effected.
