Abstract
8977. Bell, T. A., and Bell, L., [trading as Bell, C.]. April 18. Ironing-machines.-In a machine of the reciprocating-table type, for steaming, pressing, and smoothing collars, cuffs, and the like, or for finishing handkerchiefs, serviettes, &c., the movement of the tal le is automatically reversed by means of two projections which are mounted on the table and engage alternately with a lever connected with the belt forks. The back projection may be rendered inoperative to allow the table to run out at the front beyond the influence of the supporting- rolls. The shaft 5 carrying the rolls 12, which support and drive the table 10, is rotated from the driving-shaft 4 and is connected by spur gearing with the resiliently-mounted ironing-roller 9. The table is mounted to slide on rails 15 and is provided with two projections 29, 30. which alternately engage a lever 31 operating, through an arrangement of levers and a sliding sleeve, the pivoted belt forks 21. To enable the attendant to refill the table, the handle 40 is actuated to throw the projection 30 out of action, whereupon the table continues to move forward until no longer in contact with the rolls 12. The table covering may be damp when it is desired to steam the articles.
