Carburetting.-A carburettor provided with means for admitting a secondary supply of air to be mixed in a mixing-chamber with richly carburetted air comprises a casing A containing blocks of absorbent material B preferably surmounted by a perforated tray c<1>. Oil is admitted to a perforated ring D in sufficient quantity to saturate the blocks B and the supply is then shut off. Air is admitted through a pipe F into a ring G having perforations in its upper surface, and passes downwards through the blocks B to the space a<1> at the bottom. The carburetted air passes up a pipe h<4> into a mixing- chamber H provided with baffles, vanes, or the like, and mixes with a further supply of air admitted through pipes J, j<2>. The primary and secondary air supplies are regulated by valves f<1>, j<1>. The final product leaves the apparatus by a pipe h<5>. Two or more carburettors may be worked together, in which case a common mixing-chamber may be employed.
