Axle-boxes.-An axlebox for railway, tramway, and other vehicles, locomotives, &c. is formed on the inner side with a chamber C containing a packing-ring G, held against the axle H by a divided spring ring F, preferably with its ends overlapping. The ring F rests upon a semicircular piece of metal E, and is pressed against the packing by two adjustable screws or lugs D, which are so placed as to compress the packing automatically as the bearing wears.
