Abstract

4706. Howorth, F. W., [Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie.]. Feb. 26. Field magnets; sparking, preventing.-An excitation current of the correct phase and magnitude for exciting the auxiliary poles of a single-phase motor is obtained from a coil or coils wound around the whole or a portion of a main pole so as to embrace a portion of the fluctuating field of the pole. As applied to a motor having a ring armature, the coil A, Fig. 3, is wound around a portion or the whole of the main pole A, and the current induced therein is caused to excite the auxiliary pole E. Two inducing windings may be situated upon each pole A, and the exciting winding of each auxiiiary pole is connected to two windings, each of which surrounds a portion of a main pole. The windings for all the auxiliary poles may be connected in series and excited from a winding upon one main pole, an obmic resistance R, Fig. 6, and an ohmic or inductive resistance R' being included in the circuit for adjusting the phase and the magnitude of the field. The auxiliary poles may have upon them, in addition, main - current windings for compensating for the static induction.
