Abstract

1990. Parkinson & W. & B. Cowan, and Cheshire, W. Jan. 26. Atmospheric gas burners.-The air and gas supplies to the mixing chamber of an atmospheric burner, such as is used in gas fires, may be controlled independently or simultaneously. The body a of the device is supplied with gas through a pipe b, and a valve j actuated by a screw k, screwing through the body a and passing through a plain hole in the screw g, serves to regulate the quantity of gas passing through the inner set of jet holes m to the mixing-tube d: The air supply, which enters the mixing-tube through holes c' in the disk c and through the annular space between the disk and the tube d, is regulated by varying the distance between the tube and the disk by means of a screw g rotatably secured to the body a by a set-screw h and passing through a screwed hole in the plate f ; this plate is attached to the disk c by a bar e. The holes c' in the disk and the holes m<1> in the body a provide for the minimum supplies of air and gas respectively, when the disk abuts against the tube or when the valve j closes the holes m. The screws are provided with milled heads g<2>, k<1> by which they may be rotated independently or simultaneously. A set-screw p, which passes through a slot e<1>, may be used to lock the bar e temporarily, and a cover-cap screwing over the plate f may enclose the screw heads g<2>, k<1>. According to the Provisional Specification, the air-regulating disk and the screwed plate f may be connected by a sleeve mounted upon the body-portion and having a slot cut in it to clear the gas-inlet pipe; also, a set-screw may be used to lock both the regulating screw heads together temporarily; further, instead of the air regulation being effected as described, the screw g may operate any other arrangement for actuating an additional air inlet.
