Abstract

914. Forbes, J. Jan. 14. Grouped machines; stands. - Relates to an arrangement of two hemming or other sewing- machines so that one operator can work both. The left-hand machine g is mounted on a raised table h which is cut away at i, so that the machines may be placed close together and still leave room for the work to be laid flat. Each machine has an inclined table c having a turned-down edge e which extends to the right past the end of the table. A work-guide f is placed obliquely under each table. After being stitched the work passes over smooth guides j, the passage being assisted by revolving brushes l which avoid the necessity of the operator caring for this part of the work by hand. The guides j are adjustable by rods n so as to vary the pressure of the brushes l upon the work. Instead of brushes, pads may be used, and instead of being rotated they may be actuated in a similar manner to the dog in an ordinary four-motion feed.
