The cardboard backing is first perforated in the form of the lettering &c. The paper &c. is then placed on the face of the card and cut on with a die, slightly larger than the perforating-die and provided with a cutting-edge just sufficiently deep to pierce the paper. The margin between the perforations and the edge of the letter &c. secures the latter to the card, adhesive having been previously applied to the paper.
