Types. - Cheques and other papers are protected against forgery or unauthorized alteration by the employment in a typewriter of the type-lever or typewheel class of types formed with raised points b or short knife-like ribs adapted completely to perforate. the paper and to produce a single line of separated perforations, the platen being provided with a soft backing such as blotting-paper. The edges of the perforations are inked by means of a ribbon or, preferably, by means of a sheet of carbon paper. If a typelever machine is employed, a special shift for cheque-protecting types may be provided.
