Abstract

279. Harding, G. Jan. 4. Seats, arrangement of.-A portion of the body of a baby carriage or like vehicle is adapted to form a seat for the attendant. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a portion a of one side of the vehicle is cut away and is hinged to draw-out bars beneath the body. It is supported by hinged legs e, which are kept rigid by sliding sleeves i and may be folded into a groove in the outer face of the seat. They are joined by a bar f, which is provided with knobs h and is adapted to enter under spring catches g to hold the seat out of use. Hinged struts take the seat load off the springs k. Fig. 3 shows a form in which the removable padded back u of a vehicle is converted into a seat by hinging one pair of cross-legs to it at wand engaging the other pair in sockets x. By removing the legs from the sockets and collapsing them on the others, they may be slid under the vehicle, and the surface u may be held in place by catches to form the back.
