Abstract
190,667. Fischer, H. Feb. 15, 1922. Instantaneous generators.-In an instantaneous generator of the type in which water is sprayed on highly heated surfaces so as not to contact with the source of heat, the heated surfaces are highly oxidized. This is stated to prevent spheroidal action. The generator comprises combustion chambers a communicating with the chimney by flues i and surrounded by generating chambers b - - g which communicate with an encircling steam collector h. A second similar series of generating chambers enter the boiler from the opposite end thereof. The generating chambers contain water supply pipes u having nozzle-like perforations l, and are lined with sheet-iron plates m strongly oxidized by nitric acid on the side facing the jets and bright on the other side. The steam collector and each of the generating chambers are fitted with safety valves and pressure gauges, and each of the communicating openings between the collector and the chambers is provided with pivoted flap valves x, z. The valve x isolates the generating chamber if the pressure therein is less than the pressure in the collector and the valve x, which is normally held open by gravity, only closes when the pressure in the generator is excessive. The feed-water supply is intermittently interrupted bv the device shown in Fig. 2, comprising a crank p driven from a stepped pulley o and reciprocating a slide g in a casing to which the feed pipe o is connected. The slide has an opening r of the same diameter as the pipe o and a slot engaging a pin on the connecting rod s, so arranged that the slide remains stationary for a predetermined period when the pipe o and the opening r are in alignment.
