Abstract

28,439. Warne, A. T., and Steele, J. T. Dec. 13. Locks, key. - A means for controlling the rotation of the locking-post of a loose - leaf binder is shown in Fig. 3. The post is provided at the end with a pin a adapted to enter the key E, and is rigidly attached to a ring b containing a loose cam d. An outer ring e<1> is screwed to the ring b, and both rings contain a recess into which enters a pin e on the cam d. A spring-pressed pin e<2> attached to the casing D also enters the recess. To unlock and rotate the post, the key E is turned to engage the narrow end of the cam, thus forcing the cam outward and pressing back the pin e<2>. Further movement of the key rotates the rings b, e<1> and the post until the motion is stopped by the pin g. To lock the post, the key is turned in the reverse direction, when it comes into contact with the broad end of the cam and rotates it until the pin e<2> enters the slot.
