Abstract

28,359. Lamb, Van B. Dec. 12. Brakes.-The brake head is in two interlocking parts 2, 4. A tapered projection 6 on the part 2 is secured in a recess in the part 4 by a transverse cotter 8, which is locked by a cotter 11, and an edge on the part 4 engages beneath a shoulder 19 on the part 2. A flange 3 is provided for bolting to the brake beam, and an eye 5 for taking the hanger. A mortise 12, tapering towards its ends, as described in Specification No. 28,358, A.D. 1906, receives a tenon on the brake shoe, which preferably comprises two interchangeable blocks 14, 15 connected by a tapering tenon and mortise 17. The blocks are thickest opposite the tenon, to ensure their being worn completely away. When the block 14 has been partly worn away, it can be secured on the face of a new block.
