Abstract

23,493. Gillman, B. M. Oct. 23. Kites.-Relates to a kite, or an aeroplane, which may be used for advertising, scientific, war, and signalling purposes, for carrying cables to distressed ships, or for carrying telephone and telegraph wires. As shown, the apparatus comprises a central plane a of light material, with adjoining sections b, to which are attached four prismatic parts c', c<2>. Wings e, shaped as shown, are attached to the sections e, and two triangular pieces j are attached to the head of the kite. The fabric of which the various parts are made is provided with strengthening rods or poles b, d, f, and the wings e are. held by stretchers g, which pass through holes h in the fabric and engage pockets i at the tips of the wings. The wings e may be connected to the rods d by glove fasteners, and triangular-shaped wings may be used so as to suit different conditions of wind. In order to vary the angle of the aeroplane, the bridle cords m, n and leaders n are attached to the rods b, f and to two rings p, connected to the ring r to which the flying string is attached.
