17,348. Iseler, A. C. Aug. 1. Feed-water, controlling.-Relates to regulators fitted with a piston or diaphragm. According to the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the cylinder containing the piston 3 or diaphragm is connected with the boiler by two pipes R, r, of which one terminates low down in the water space and the other at the desired level. A weight g presses the piston in the direction of the pipe r. When the level falls below the end of this pipe, steam enters the cylinder and moves the piston to the left, overcoming the weight g. This movement causes the piston valve 2 to open communication between the feed-pipe q and the non-return valve s leading into the boiler. In a modification, the valve s is controlled directly from the lever of the weight g. In the further modification shown in Fig. 3, the piston k moves vertically. The feedvalve s may be fitted inside the casing of the regulator, or it may be separate, as shown in dotted lines, where the weight g is connected indirectly with the piston k. The apparatus may also be used to control the suction side of the pump or the steam valve of the injector.
