The wheel 13 has a peripheral row of blades 17, Fig. 6, and oppositely-arranged blades 11 are formed on the adjacent part of the casing 1. Pairs of rectangular nozzles 23, Fig. 5, are arranged round the casing, and one nozzle of each pair supplies the casing blades and the other nozzle the wheel blades. The jets of steam entering the channels 12, 18 between the blades unite where the channels cross and expad, thus producing motion. The exhaust takes place through a groove 31 and pipes 36.
