Abstract

13,208. Best, R. H., and Williams, H. June 7. Plug cocks.-The plug a, Fig. 2, of gas and like cocks and taps is kept tight and adjusted for wear by means of a spring b fitted between the head of the screw c and the washer d which is mounted on the plug and turns with it in the ordinary manner. The spring b may be a simple helical spring, or may be made from a circular blank of thin sheet steel, as shown in Figs. 6 and 8. The usual " nighting " pin at the top of the plug is replaced by a snug e projecting from the washer d and working in a groove f in the tap body. When the plug does not extend through the tap body, the spring and washer are fitted at the top of the plug.
