The hollow valve stem a ends in a plate b which is covered by a plate c. The plate c may screw on to the valve stem, or it may be slipped loosely over the stem and secured by a nut. The joint g may be formed as a rim and groove as shown, or the part b may be formed with a conical seating with which the part c engages. The interior of the spindle is in communication with the hollow valve through the slot i.
