11,983. Metz, H. A., and Clarkson, P. S. May 22. Fats and fatty oils.-Oils and fats, such as corn oil and linseed oil, are bleached by means of formaldehyde hydrosulphites and sulphoxylates. Hyraldite or hydrosulphite NF, a sodium formaldehyde-hydrosulphite compound is mentioned as suitable for this purpose. The oil under treatment is agitated with a solution of the reagent and allowed to stand, and the separation effected by means of a solvent such as petroleum spirit, with or without a prior decantation.
