Abstract
10,435. Savery, A. May 4. Sole protectors; soles.-Relates to heavy boots, for miners &c., in which metal strengthening- plates are used. The plate at the fore part of the sole consists of a rim a, Fig. 1, projecting from a foundation a<1>, which fits between the inner and outer soles and is drilled to receive the rivets for securing the soles. The outer sole b extends only to the inner edge of the rim, which may be studded with dummy nail heads. Similar plates d, d<1> are secured to the waist, the foundations extending back beyond the breast of the heel. Fig. 3 shows a modification, in which the two waist plates are connected by a raised, transverse rib d<2>, while the sole is divided into two parts b<1>, b<2>, which has the advantage that scrap leather can be used for the part b<2>. Studs d' projecting from the plates serve as guides for positioning the heel, the lifts of which are cut away to receive them.
