Purifiers.-Bars b for supporting filtering or purifying media, and preferably of the form described in Specification No. 15,948, A.D. 1903, [Abridgment Class Filtering &c.], are carried by vertical rectangular supports a, forming hurdles which are placed side by side in the purifying- chamber. The bottom of the chamber may be in the form of a grate to prevent the medium from falling into the gas-distributing space below, or bars d of the same cross-sectional shape as the bars b, or otherwise, placed close enough together to prevent the passage of the medium, may be carried by the supports a. Cross-pieces c serve to give rigidity when several frames are placed in the chamber, and also prevent the supports a from touching each other, so that spaces are left between the frames for the lateral passage of gas. One of the series of hurdles may be wedge-shaped, or instead, some of the grids may be arranged horizontally in the usual way, the removal of the wedge-shaped rack, or of the horizontal grids giving the necessary freedom fcr the removal of the retraining vertical frames and filtering or purifying material. To remove the medium, a shallow box may be introduced into the chamber and the hurdles tilted so as to allow the medium to fall into the box, or boards may be introduced at the sides of a hurdle so as to form with the hurdle a box-like case which may be removed bodily.
