Abstract

5791. Klein, D. March 9. Actuating valves. -Relates to a device for actuating a plug cock 29 in a milking-machine, in which a reciprocating piston - rod 24 is actuated by the alternate action of a vacuum and compressed air. The rod 24 carries a tappet 50 having a pin 55 which meets in its motion a lever 39 fixed to the valve 29 and closes the valve, which is normally kept open by a spring 40. At the same time, a projection 52, Fig. 6, on the tappet tilts a bar 42 about its pivot 43 and causes a shoulder 45 to engage the lever 39 and hold the valve 29 closed. On the return motion of the rod, the tappet depresses the end 48 of the bar 42 against the spring 46 and releases the lever 39, thus allowing the valve to open.
