Abstract

3551. Lake, W. R., [Goss Printing Press Co.]. Feb. 13. Stereotype.- Pivotally mounted moulds, particularly those for stereotype plates, are connected to a ladling - device so that as the mould is turned into the casting position a measured charge of molten metal is taken up by the ladle and held ready for pouring. The stereotype mould shown is trunnioned at 22, Fig. 1, and is connected by cranks 27, 28 and rod 29 to the shaft 16 forming the fulcrum of the ladle, which comprises a measuring-bowl 14 and a conical stem 13 which is inclined to the bowl and telescopes into the flared end 20 of a discharge spout 18, Fig. 6. The hub 38 of the crank 27, Fig. 10, is loose on the shaft 16 and is rigidly connected to the spout 18 by a sleeve. A lug on the hub 38 has fifteen or twenty degrees play in a slot in a collar 34 fast on the shaft, as are also the lugs on the stem of the ladle. When the mould is turned up against a stop 33, the spout is brought into proper position as shown in Fig. 6, and the ladle is raised but not discharged owing to the play at 34. The pouring is completed by a handle 41 fast on the shaft 16.
