Abstract

3284. Speirs, R. Feb. 10. Signals on engines; contacts, electric and mechanical; audible signals; lamp signals; miniature signals.-One fixed and one transversely-movable inclined plane 30 engage a bar 3 sliding vertically between roller guides 6, 7 and provided with a friction roller 9, and cause a pointer to move over a dial and close circuits to an electric bell. The bar 9 carries a pivoted pawl 11 which engages pins on the wheel 13. which is thereby rotated against the action of the spring 15. The spindle of the wheel 13 is provided with a pointer, which moves over a dial and which serves to close the circuit of an electric bell when moved either one or two steps from its position of rest. The pin-wheel 13 is held in its operative position by the spring-controlled lever 26, which the driver operates to allow the spring 15 to restore the wheel 13 to its normal position. The fixed track obstacle gives one movement to the bar 3 for line clear,' and the movable one is put in position to give a second movement for " danger." This latter is operated in conjunction with the semaphore signal by means of wires and bell-crank levers which give it movements transverse to the track. A whistle, gong, or other audible signal or a lamp may be used in place of the bell above described.
