Abstract
12,235. Brown, H. G. May 27. Stopping engines and trains.-A hinged treadle 2, adapted to be depressed by the wheel-flange of a passing vehicle, is connected to a train-stopping lever 6 through levers 10, 7 and a clutch 12. When the line is clear, the clutch is rendered operative and the depression of the treadle moves the stopping - lever 6 i n t o inoperative position. When the line is blocked, the clutch is inoperative and the lever 6 remains in its normal position to stop the train. The clutch may be governed by any suitable mechanical or electric means. In the arrangement shown, the circuit containing the electric means is closed by the block 16 on the signal rod and may be closed independently by a switch 17.
