Abstract
1059. Williams, L. Jan. 15. Typewriters.-Relates to printing-point indicators for typewriters, and is described as applied to a machine of the Oliver class. The indicator is pivoted so as to be oscillated laterally away from the printing-point when a type-bar is actuated, and to be returned after the impression. The vibrating ribbon guide C is provided with two arms c having loops through which the ribbon passes. The escapement-lever D, which is connected with the space bar, carries a double pawl d<1> which acts on an escapement-wheel D<1> on a shaft D<2> having at its upper end a pinion d engaging the carriage rack b. A link E connects the lever D with the rock-shaft C' of the ribbon-vibrator, which is supported by an arm F<1> on the shift-frame F. The printing-point indicator consists of a pointer G<1> carried by a lever G, which is pivoted to the arm F and has at its lower end a weighted arm G<2>. When a key-lever is actuated, the forward end of the lever D rises and strikes the arm G<3>, thereby rocking the lever G. The motion of the lever G is limited by a slot and stud. The indicator is returned by means of the weight G<3> or a spring. The lever G may be actuated by any other vibrating part of the machine.
