Be it known that I, JEROME B. Sncou', a citizen of the United States, and resident Derby, in'the county of New Haven and State of -.;onnecticut, have invented certain and useful Improvements in TypelYriting Machines, of which the followingi is a specification.
My invention relates in general to typeparticularly to an improved device for bringing the type into proper printing position.
u my prior patent No. 786,056, granted March 28th, 1905, I have shown anddescribed a type alining device in the form of a spherical or aco'rn shaped pin secured in a stationary member, which is adapted to engage in a curved perforation in each type-bar. Thesaid patent also covers, under its broad terms, the use of a pin on each type-bar and a perforation in the stationary member. A specific form of pin on each type-bar, in combination with a perforation in the stationary member, forms the subject matter of my present improvement-in the alining device. In front strike machines such as that known as the Secor machine, the type-bars are disposed with their pivots substantially in the arc of a circle and their axes projecting forward substantially horizontally. By reason of this arrangement the type-bar in the middle moves in a vertical plane passing through the printing point, whereas type-bars farther from the middle have movements in planes which become more nearly'horizontal as their distance from the middle increases. Accordingly to enable those skilled in the art my invention, I have shown by Way of example in the accompanying drawings and shall describe with reference thereto embodiments of my invention applied to a Secor machine.
