Abstract

681. Heasman, H. J. Jan. 10. Gas or explosive-vapour engines.-A two-strokecycle engine using heavy oil has admission and exhaust valves in the cylinder head worked by cams 36, 37 through balls 47. Air is compressed in the crank chamber and some is admitted to the oil reservoir in the bed-plate 2 to force the oil into an annular cavity 23 in the admission valve seating. The charge is vaporized by ribs 26 in the combustion chamber, heated by a lamp at starting. The engine has a long stroke and only half the air entering the cylinder is retained therein, the exhaust valve closing at half in-stroke. The ignition cam 34 is adjustable by a lever 53, and the cam 36 by the governor. Rings 52 catch the oil from the shaft bearings and direct it to holes in the crank-pin.
