Abstract

556. Gorst, J. Jan. 9. Window blinds.-:Relates to venetian blinds of the type in which the laths are gathered from the top instead of the bottom. The top lath b, Fig. 1, is connected to the supporting-lath c by tapes d in the usual manner, the remaining laths being supported by ladder tapes having cross tapes l, Fig. 4, between which the laths are disposed. The bottom lath is of metal, to ensure the proper extension of the blind. The raising and lowering cords e pass over pulleys g in the usual manner, and may be attached to a handle h. The cords, where they pass through the laths, are engaged by slides m, Fig. 4, attached to springs n, alternately arranged, which cause the cord to assume a zigzag form when extended. The slides may be provided with rollers, and move in guides q formed by the turned-over edges of a fitting o secured tu the blind by pins r. When drawn up, the slides are pulled to one side, and the cord extends through the laths in a straight line. The two cords e may be attached to a fitting, as shown in Fig. 6, which comprises a pair of screws i attached to a handle h and provided with wing nuts for adjusting the relative lengths of the cords. Cords t for inclining the laths, and a checking-cord u, are provided. Semicircular blocks s are attached to the top lath, to ensure the rising of the laths at the desired angle.
